Hinggan League is where forest, grassland, volcanic landforms, hot springs and border scenery meet in eastern Inner Mongolia. Ulanhot is the city and transport base; Arxan is the mountain-forest and hot-spring anchor. Keep Arxan National Forest Park, Tuofengling Tianchi, Dujuan Lake, Ulan Mod Grassland, Arxan Port, Genghis Khan Temple and Ulanhot red-history sites as the main planning names.
Arxan and Ulanhot
Arxan National Forest Park needs weather-first planning. Tuofengling Tianchi, Dujuan Lake, volcanic rock areas, forest roads and lakes can be cold, windy or snowy outside summer. Check road status, shuttle rules, fire-prevention notices, lodging heat and return time before entering. Hot springs vary by hotel and product; ask about pool access, hygiene, medical cautions, closing time and refund rules.
Ulanhot adds a cultural and historical line with Genghis Khan Temple, red memorial sites and city food. Ulan Mod Grassland and Arxan Port can be added if road, border rules and daylight work. Border areas require care with photos, drones, parking and route signs.
Route Choices
For three days, use Arxan arrival, a full forest-park day, then a lighter hot-spring or port and grassland day. For five or six days, connect Ulanhot, Arxan, Ulan Mod Grassland and selected border scenery. Do not underestimate low temperature, snow, forest fire rules, fuel intervals or small-town service limits.
Food is straightforward: lamb, beef, dairy, forest products, noodles and hot meals after cold outdoor time. Buy mushrooms, dairy or local gifts only with clear packaging, dates and receipts. Hinggan League is best when treated as a slow forest-grassland journey, not a quick add-on to Hulunbuir.
